    I’ve been very lucky with my working environment with my small tech team that has been pretty isolated in a large company. But my team is expanding, and today in a meeting with my new boss, things went downhill. A few years ago, I probably would have just taken it, not understanding what went wrong. I’ve always considered myself a feminist, but until recently I was ideologically isolated and I was not aware of the taxonomy of problematic behaviors. Thanks to this site and the wikia and others sites like them, I was much more confident in my analysis of what happened in the meeting today. I did a bit of third shift work – talked about the problem with the new boss. Our company has laid groundwork for progress with training on inclusion, interpersonal dynamics, emotional intelligence and harassment, plus a mental health professional whose primary responsibility is to facilitate conflict resolution. So when I talked to this boss, he was already familiar with some of the basic concepts and he was receptive to hearing my complaint and he responded appropriately. He actually had a high opinion of the corporate attempt at improving the culture of respect because it had previously helped him with a few incidents of conflict among the well-positioned cis white men he had to deal with as a new employee… my point being that these corporate culture projects really seemed to help set the stage for my third shift work to be successful, so that hopefully I won’t have to do much more of it. I can’t claim success yet because this just happened, but the conversation seemed to go well and I am hopeful.

    Here is my overall point: Thank you. Thank you to this site and the wikia and the blogs and articles to which you link. I don’t always agree with the positions expressed, obviously (because no two people agree on everything), but I don’t need to agree with everything in order to benefit. You are making the tools and putting them out there and people are using them and making things better.

      Thank you for the positive feedback! I, too, have found a lot of power in just being able to fit the behaviors I observe into a taxonomy.
