Reminder: Grace Hopper Celebration 2010 scholarship applications due Friday

The title sort of says it all: Scholarship applications for attending the Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing this year are due on Friday, May 14th, 2010.

If you’re not familiar with GHC, you should be! This is the big conference for women in technology, with mostly female attendees and female speakers. They don’t compromise on the technology just because of the gender: the talks are fascinating and diverse, including brand new research as well as talks geared towards career development, and even some hack sessions with code or lego. (And my friend Gail often says that her favourite part is the dancing! Who knew dancing at a technical con could be so fun?) I found last year that the overall quality of presentations was much higher than the average tech con: many excellent speakers really who are passionate about their work. It’s an amazing experience, and very inspirational to see what all the cool women around you are doing.

The scholarship info is available here. Please note: “The majority of scholarships are awarded to undergraduate and graduate students, however, junior faculty, members of non-governmental organizations, and non-profits are eligible to apply.”

About terriko

Terri has a PhD in horribleness, assuming we can all agree that web security is kind of horrible. She stopped working on skynet (err, automated program repair and AI) before robots from the future came to kill her and got a job in open source, which at least sounds safer. Now, she gets paid to break things and tell people they're wrong, and maybe help fix things so that people won't agree so readily with the first sentence of this bio in the future. Terri writes/tweets under the name terriko, enjoys making things and mentoring others and has a plain ol' home page at http://terri.toybox.ca.
